May Wrap-Up

Total Reads: 19 books
Average rating for the month: 4.2 out of 5 stars
Books 61 through 66 were for the Bout of Books readathon.

55. The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
13597723Okay, so I actually finished this in April, but missed adding it to my wrap-up so here it is on this one. I’ve got to be honest, based on this cover alone I probably wouldn’t have read it; however, after hearing it was like a YA Criminal Minds, I figured why not since I’m always on the hunt for a good book about serial killers. This did not disappoint and I found myself squealing because the library has the sequel and you don’t have to wait.
Rating: 5/5 stars.

56. A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain
162898This month’s classic was my first finished book and I’m pretty happy about that. I realized I like time travel if it’s to certain locations.
Rating: 4/5 stars

57. Killer Instinct by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
20409231This book was just as amazing as the first with just as an unappealing cover. I found myself really upset that I didn’t check the next book out at the same time as I did this one.
Rating: 5/5 stars
Read: May 3-4, 2016

58. City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
3777732This one was another reread as I want to finally continue on in this series. It was my favorite when I first read the series and remains my favorite of the first three. Surprisingly, I remembered the most from this one.
Rating: 5/5 stars.

59. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
24445517I finally got around to my second Colleen Hoover book and while I found myself conflicted, I really enjoyed it. Also, Warren was probably my favorite character; making me want to read the novel which I normally skip. Colleen Hoover has this way of writing where I feel like I can’t get the book in my head fast enough; which isn’t a complaint.

60. All  In by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
24849026This is the third book in the Naturals quartet and I’m so sad that I have to wait for the conclusion.
Rating: 5/5 stars
Read: May 6-8, 2016

61. Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
25756328I wrote a full review on this book.
Rating: 4/5 stars

63. The Outliers by Kimberly McCreight
26116473There didn’t seem much of a reason to have a second book. There are also a few unrealistic moments and the writing wasn’t as gripping as her previous works. Overall, I probably would have rated this higher without her adult novels, which I recommend reading instead.
Rating: 3/5 stars
Read: May 10-11, 2016

64. Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke
23203106 For awhile it felt like nothing would happen. Then everything happened. Then no resolution and much confusion.
Rating: 2/5 stars

65. If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo
26156987I have also written a spoiler free review on this book.
Rating: 5/5 stars
Read: May 11-12, 2016

66. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
7171637This month I began the Infernal Devices series. I was originally going to read them in publication order, but decided to go with “series” chunks and read the first three TMI books followed by the TID books ending with the last three TMI books. I really enjoyed this book except I began to have a crisis over liking Jem better.
Rating: 4/5 stars

67. Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
10025305I honestly wasn’t expecting to read the first two books in this trilogy back-to-back especially since it took until May to reread the first three books in the Mortal Instruments, but I couldn’t help myself. I’m slowly accepting how much I like Jem, but Will is still great. Also the “minions” in this series are creepy clock robots which are creepier than that sounds trust me.
Rating: 5/5 stars

68. Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix
13129925Maybe I would have liked the catalog aspect of this better if I had a physical copy. The ghost bits didn’t seem as well done as they could have been. Overall pretty average, but still entertaining while reading.
Rating: 3/5 stars

69. The Erstaz Elevator by Lemony Snicket
172327This is the sixth book in the Series of Unfortunate Events. Although I haven’t liked the last few books as much as I wanted, I feel like these are back on an uphill climb story-wise.
Rating: 4/5 stars

70. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares214438This was a reread because I remember loving this series when I was younger. It was still refreshing and enjoyable many years later.
Rating: 4/5 stars
Read: May 23-24, 2016

71. The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
26156203I’ve written a spoiler free review on this book.
Rating: 5/5 stars

72. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
18335634I honestly wasn’t expecting to read all of this trilogy this month, but apparently things change. To say that I thoroughly loved this trilogy is an understatement and this book was my favorite in it. I had a ton of emotions about this and it was an excellent conclusion. I understand the conclusion I was aware of better now and actually enjoyed it.
Rating: 5/5 stars.

73. The Second Summer of the Sisterhood  by Ann Brashares
5456After finishing the first book earlier in the month, I became curious if I remembered as much about the second book as the first. Turns out, the amount I remember of each girl’s stories depends on how much I liked them when I was younger, but I’m glad this series is still holding up to what I remember it to be.
Rating: 4/5 stars

74. It Wasn’t Always Like This by Joy Preble
26150667
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the past parts. I probably would have enjoyed before and after sections better as the past parts seemed to jump all over the place. The present story wasn’t as focused on the romance as the past parts would lead you to believe. It was a quick read once I sat down to finish it.
Rating: 3/5 stars
